Passport and Visa Information

U.S. Passport holders must have a visa to enter Brazil. When traveling to Brazil, those with U.S. passports will need to obtain a "tourist" visa from the Brazilian Embassy or appropriate Brazilian Consulate. The amount of time required to process a visa, in addition to the documents required to obtain a visa, varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Immunizations and Vaccinations

 All travelers should visit either their personal physician or a travel health clinic 4-8 weeks before departure to determine the recommended immunization and vaccination requirements. General Travel Information

International Airport: Rio de Janeiro (GIG) 

Currency: Brazil's currency since 1 July, 1994, is the Real (R$) which is roughly valued at R$2 = $1 USD.

ATM machines are available in airports and banks (open 10:00a.m. – 4:00a.m.)

Cell Phones can be rented directly upon arrival at the airport terminal.  

Tipping: Most restaurants add 10% or more to the total of the bill, but must make it clear that they have done so. Brazilians don't normally tip taxi drivers, although they may round the total up.
